The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location within the GES Global Engineering Services division.

The primary function of this role is to provide mechanical maintenance support to manufacturing, research and development laboratories, warehouses, and office facilities located at Abbott Park and associated Lake County facilities. The Technician Level 1 Mechanic performs routine and intermediate mechanical maintenance, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting activities, while working in compliance with Abbott Engineering Standards, GMP requirements, and established safety procedures.

What You'll Work On:

  • Performs routine and intermediate mechanical maintenance and repair tasks on production and facility equipment with limited supervision. 
  • Independently resolves basic mechanical issues and assists senior mechanics with advanced troubleshooting. 
  • Performs preventive maintenance (PM) activities and documents work completion in CMMS. 
  • Supports installation, removal, relocation, and basic retrofitting of equipment. 
  • Uses standard mechanical hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices safely. 
  • Follows Abbott Engineering Standards, GMP, and safety procedures. 
  • Initiates work orders and requests for parts and materials. 
  • Maintains housekeeping standards in work areas and mechanical rooms. 
  • Participates in on-the-job training and may assist less experienced mechanics. 
  • Identifies and reports equipment or safety issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED or Equivalent
  • Minimum 1-3 yrs experience. Relevant experience should demonstrate developing to intermediate proficiency in mechanical maintenance activities within an industrial, manufacturing, laboratory, or facilities environment.
  • The individual should have hands on experience using mechanical hand tools, power tools, and basic measuring devices; following work instructions, engineering standards, and safety procedures; and documenting completed work through work orders or maintenance systems.
  • Experience should include performing preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical systems such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, fans, compressors, and related equipment.
  • Experience must also reflect the ability to work with limited supervision, follow GMP and safety requirements, collaborate effectively with team members, and escalate complex issues appropriately while continuing

The base pay for this position is $22.50 – $45.00 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
