The Opportunity
This position works out of our Irving, TX location in the Core Diagnostics Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.
A Skilled Trades – Plumber will join the Dallas Campus Facilities Shared Services team, reporting to the Plant Maintenance Supervisor. The candidate will adhere to established plumbing standards, practices, regulations, and internal standards, and interact with internal customers. and is responsible for maintain and installing plumbing systems across a multi-building campus.
What You’ll Work On
- Uses trade specific, specialized skills to maintain, repair, install, and operate mechanical (plumbing) equipment.
- Utilizes skills and experience to troubleshoot plumbing issues.
- Uses and trains others in the use of all trade specific tools and automated equipment.
- Uses computers and electronic measurement equipment to gather and interpret data.
- Reads and interprets complex drawings, specifications, and schematics.
- Conducts preventive maintenance for plumbing and building equipment.
- Orders and maintains supplies and spare parts inventory. Re-orders inventory to prevent shortages.
- Interprets required codes and regulations.
- Knows and applies proper methods/procedures for trade specific work and practices all safety rules.
- Work often requires creativity to design and fabricate optimal solutions for plumbing applications.
- Identifies and recommends changes for improvements and cost saving initiatives.
- Flexible and able to adjust to a variety of tasks and changing priorities.
- Determines own sequence of steps and priorities. Seeks efficiency among alternatives.
- Develops plumbing, layouts and designs as appropriate. Gathers and uses information from outside sources including vendors, engineering, etc. Exercises professional judgment.
- Review layouts and calculates project time, labor, material types and usafe.
- Works well with other maintenance team members and demonstrates project leadership in a positive and effective manner.
- Trains peers and cross-trains in other skilled trades areas.
- Effectively negotiates downtime with affected functional areas to plan and schedule plumbing installations and repairs.
- Supervises activity of outside contractors who are supplementing plumbing services to the campus.
- Exercises the highest level of safety in all activities.
- Work can be physical challenging with exposure to noise, fumes, dust, odors, etc. Work is subject to difficult physical activity such as awkward body positions, standing, lifting, bending, working from heights.
- This position requires a high degree of interaction with internal customers, external venders, and the entire facilities team.
- Must be able to communicate status of projects, PM’s, and work orders.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum high school education or equivalency is required.
- Trades certificate or associate’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of three years’ work experience in the plumbing trade.

The base pay for this position is $26.30 – $52.60 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
