The Opportunity

The Principal Engineering/Technical lead at our Little Canada/St. Paul, MN location.  The person hired will be responsible for designing electromechanical medical devices in Abbott’s Electrophysiology Medical Device Division

What You’ll Work On

This position will be technical lead for research/development/customization of magnetic navigation systems.  This includes initiating the planning, organizing, coordinating with both internal and external customers.  Position will lead team responsible for determining the design and evaluation of next generation ENSite X EP Systems.

  • Leads fast growing, high visibility R&D team applying knowledge of electromagnetic (EM) technology.
  • Supports animal studies, bench testing, clinical evaluations.
  • Completes/leads engineering research and development projects.  This includes setting and revising requirements and specifications, debugging, testing and completing documentation to ensure feasibility and verifiability of performance.
  • Plans, coordinates, and assists in executing the activities of development teams in support of project goals. Identifies and mitigates project risks.
  • Effectively communicates the project successes, risks, and roadblocks to the appropriate management levels.
  • Ensures compliance with procedural and documentation requirements of Abbott, FDA and ISO design controls.
  • Solves complex and diverse technical problems by applying sound judgment, creativity, appropriate data analysis, and technical expertise. 
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in EM navigation systems theory, sensors, algorithms, and hardware design.
  • Experience in project management and/or leading projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related engineering
  • 15+ years of relevant engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical Device product development experience
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related engineering
  • Magnetic FEA modeling
  • Experience specifying and designing analog and digital electronics.
  • Familiarity with IEC 60601 family of standards
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, Altium or other CAD tools
  • Magnetic experience in a recent Research and Development role is ideal.

Relocation is offered for this role to St. Paul Minnesota. The person hired must move and work on site to this location listed.

The base pay for this position is $125,300.00 – $250,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
