WHAT YOU’LL DO

As the Principal Engineer – Hygienic Facilities, Utilities and Equipment within Abbott Nutrition’s Manufacturing Technology team, you will provide expertise globally for the following:

  • In depth knowledge of engineering, design and maintenance of equipment and premises to assure the control of food safety hazards, to maintain product quality and to enhance cleanability – Working with architectural and process design teams to create project scopes and designs
  • Setting the global discipline strategy by developing and executing technology roadmaps, laying out and advocating for a strategy that evaluates and implements innovative solutions
  • Liaison and delegate for Quality Systems, providing technical support for quality procedures, standards, and audits
  • Identifying emerging trends and conceptualizing complete solutions for novel or complex problems; benchmarking internally and externally to investigate and recommend new or improved solutions and designs that provide business value and/or food safety improvements
  • Selecting, building, and maintaining strategic supplier partnerships
  • Organizing and leading engineering technical exchanges, such as live streams, workshops, training sessions and internal publications
  • Providing technical support to Abbott Nutrition’s global production network, including leading root cause analysis for complex issues, reviewing designs, and serving as a technical spokesperson to senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Providing technical leadership on Front End Planning (FEP) activities on multiple concurrent medium- to large-size projects and programs within the global Abbott Nutrition network (Americas, Europe, and Asia) – Making prioritization decisions between projects while determining provisional scope, design, manufacturability, cost, capital, risk, and schedule considerations
  • Mentoring and teaching others by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance
  • Developing internal regulations, procedures, and standards for discipline-related Environmental, Health, Safety, Energy (EHS&E), Process Design, and Quality
  • 25-50% travel is expected as part of the role

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Preferred 8+ years of relevant experience
  • B.S. in Engineering required or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • A technical background in facility and equipment design to support hygienic manufacturing, preferably within food, nutraceuticals, health care, pharmaceutical, or similar industries
  • Knowledge of infant formula manufacturing cGMPs, 3A, EHEDGE, 21 CFR Part 210, international sanitary standards and requirements, and/or fundamentals of microbial proliferation (preferred)
  • Experience in large capital/expansion programs with direct design responsibility
  • Experience presenting and communicating with all levels of an organization; plant production personnel through senior leadership
  • Familiarity with 2D and 3D CAD (Preferred)



The base pay for this position is $90,700.00 – $181,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
