This position works out of our Sturgis, MI location in the Abbott Nutrition division. What You’ll Work On
- Assists in development, planning, and execution of all plant-related facility engineering activities including a wide variety of mechanical, plumbing and electrical components supporting the Energy Center and utilities distribution throughout the site. The Associate Utilities Engineer will develop and gain a deep understanding of water treatment systems, energy distribution, heat exchangers, HVAC, and infrastructure.
- This role provides engineering support to all aspects of the infrastructure of the facility
- Analyze system failures to determine source and cause
- Participate in evaluating system conditions and developing long term obsolescence and sustainability plans.
- Applies working knowledge of engineering disciplines and independently conceives and develops approaches to problem solving that requires advanced technical knowledge
- Plans and conducts small to medium-sized projects. Responsibilities include detailed project planning/monitoring, budgeting, project reviews, implementation, validation, and release to production
- Promote and drive continuous improvement programs utilizing common problem-solving tools and methodologies in processes and procedures within the
- Ensure delivery of effective performance management while establishing and sustaining a positive work environment.
- Follows escalation reporting process with inputs from peers/manager for decision making as required. Make and communicate decisions that are appropriate for level of accountability.
- This position will work to coordinate external contractors to perform work in a cost effective and safe manner.
You’ll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Engineering with a preference for a Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with engineering responsibility in a regulated industry, with preference being for food, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, cosmetics, etc.
- Project planning experience
- Demonstrated leadership skills in a plant facilities maintenance environment
- Knowledge of project planning tools and experience using them
- Experience working with and implementing Continuous Improvement tools & methodologies
- Work experience in the food / medical industry under FDA regulation

The base pay for this position is $48,000.00 – $96,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
