The Opportunity

Our Diagnostics business currently has an opportunity for the role of Associate Scientist II for our location in Abbott Park (Lake Bluff), IL. This position will participate in research or development activities. Executes preclinical scientific research or development in collaboration with others.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Experimental Procedure - With direction, assists in the execution of pre-defined/ standard experiments and technical research. Demonstrates ability to explain/differentiate their research and experiments. 
  • Reviews experiment protocols and exercises technical discretion in the interpretation of protocols; obtains feedback and guidance on clear direction for execution. 
  • Summarizes data within the testing protocol. Performs scientific work and a variety of laboratory procedures requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, methods and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related scientific tasks.
  • Expertise and Problem Solving  -  Familiar with investigation operating procedure(s) and instrument manual troubleshooting guide if applicable. Able to identify out of specification events and detect/highlight  problems.  Troubleshoots instrumentation or experiments; recognizes and assists with the resolution of basic technical problems.
  • Lab Safety - Participates in routine maintenance and lab safety.
  • Documentation - With guidance, can write verification and validation protocols and reports and order materials needed to complete procedures; Documents development work and may assist in  writing technical reports.
  • Quality - Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required

  • Bachelors in life or physical science with a minimum of 1-2 yrs. experience or Masters Degree.
  • Awareness of experimental approaches/protocols and scientific methods such as designing experiments and interpreting data.
  • Awareness of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics
  • Basic Computer Skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry or Biology.
  • 1 year of experience with either of these Abbott products: Alinity or Architect.
  • PEAR, EDMS or experience with similar Data Management Systems.

The base pay for this position is $52,000.00 – $104,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
